Colie Brice Moira's 2nd Annual Block Party

Despite gloomy weather, Moira's party was incredible. The first set was by Joe Harvard with Jay Walker on bass, myself on guitar, Matt Lott on Sax, and Ben Feld on drums. No matter who he's playing with, it always comes out sounding like the Joe Harvard Band. There is consistently an omnipresent earthy, roots quality like rock and roll alley cats on covert patrol, lurking in the shadows cast by a full moon. As a musician there is always a lecture hall like experience when playing with Joe, that… Continue

Colie Brice Christmas on Cookman is off to a STRANGE start!

Wow. What a night on Cookman this past Thursday.. It started off sketchy, as we went to observe the tree lighting ceremony at Press Plaza and my son was promptly handed a bag full of promotional garbage including a violent video game from the U.S. Army and a Navy luggage tag featuring the utterly ignorant slogan: "Life, Liberty, And Pursuit Of All Who Threaten It". This is not what I want handed to my 6 year old son when he goes to see a Christmas Tree lighting. Considering that it was April wea… Continue

Colie Brice An Open Letter To the Asbury Park Music Community about Live Nation

Thursday, November 13, 2008 To Whom It May Concern: Live Nation recently set up shop in our community. Though I applaud the fact there are great national acts coming through town and offer my sincere respect to anyone who promotes great music, there are some serious negative issues that affect Asbury Park musicians that need to be addressed as well. For instance, an executive at Live Nation’s threats to blacklist artists for playing the Seaside Music Festival last May. I personally saw a text… Continue

Colie Brice Exceptionaly Long Winded Thanks from Colie Brice and the New Age Blues Experience

On Saturday at the Stone Pony, Colie Brice and the New Age Blues Experience won a 2008 Asbury Park Music Award in the Avant-Guarde category. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who voted for us. I'd also like to thank local experimental artists such as Mike Black and Jon Francis for inspiring me to explore and honor my artistic authenticity and of course all the incredible artists involved with AERIA Records who bravely follow their own muse. The award was a particular honor considering tha… Continue

Colie Brice WG3 Day Two

I mixed Soul Project today at Market in the Middle and received a thorough spanking from Cristian Duque on Guitars & Vocals. Still feeling good from my last set with Jay Walker from the night before, my high of self delusion was soon shattered by this jazz monster cat. The whole band was amazing. their instinctive sound stage placement and dynamic interaction was so incredible that I only needed to mic Cristian's vocal. Sometimes the role of a sound guy is to just get the hell out the way wh… Continue

Colie Brice WAVE GATHERING Recap Friday June 20, 2008

Hustled out of work, tore apart my home studio and lugged all my gear to Market in the Middle. I suspect I will never do this again unless I'm getting paid. I now know why people say "I'm too old for this" :) Oh my God it was a lot of work! I set up quickly and then made my way over to the Brickwall Annex to catch a bit of Arlan Feiles set before I had do sound for JPAT. Arlan and his band were simply world class. The vocals and instrumental texture perfectly suited Arlan's killer songs and th… Continue

Colie Brice Remembering Bo Diddley

I met Bo Diddley at a GRAMMY party in 1997. We were seated together. I have no idea why. I had just been invited to join a NARAS committee and had just gotten my debut solo album New Age Blues on to the Nomination Entry List in 15 different categories for the 40th Annual GRAMMY Awards. It really wasn't such a big deal, I had just figured out how to enter the album, earned my voting rights, and had the sheer audacity to send copies to the biggest names in the music business who comprised the nomi… Continue

Colie Brice Seaside Music Festival Show Review

Well despite and perhaps foolishly involving myself in a local turf battle among local promoters, I meandered down to Seaside Height last night to see some of my favorite local artists perform at the first annual Seaside Music Festival. Generally I enjoy going to Seaside Heights about as much as getting dental work done without anethesia, but the prospect of hearing orginal live music in Benny Paradise was way too alluring for me to resist. My first stop was JRs where I observed the dynamic duo… Continue
