Despite gloomy weather, Moira's party was incredible.
The first set was by Joe Harvard with Jay Walker on bass, myself on guitar, Matt Lott on Sax, and Ben Feld on drums. No matter who he's playing with, it always comes out sounding like the Joe Harvard Band. There is consistently an omnipresent earthy, roots quality like rock and roll alley cats on covert patrol, lurking in the shadows cast by a full moon. As a musician there is always a lecture hall like experience when playing with Joe, that makes me feel like an eager student who wants to please their eccentric, but brilliant Professor.
Next up was the Sunday Blues who delivered nothing less than an absolutely stunning, epic, rock concert experience! Somehow Moira's back deck was magically transformed into the backstage of Madison Square Garden in 1972. Guest stars Arlen Feiles and Anthony D'Amato brought the "garden party" feel to full fruition.
Things kept heating up as Capt. James and the P.A.I.N. roared on to the stage. Somehow, additional musical magic tricks turned Moira's driveway into a venue for James unique theatre of the absurd. I'm actually in the band and I still can't really explain what the hell is going on with this Pirate spectacle, I just know it rocks and the songs are always a joy to play, and that to see James in full character is to witness something truly original and exceptionally entertaining.
The final set of the evening was delivered by Geena who provided a free master class in great songwriting. Her set was poignant, classy, and intimate with modern jazz hues gently provided by Walker, Lott, and myself..
All in all a splendid evening indeed..
